Nature has given the Central Coast its beauty, but the people who live here give it its soul. We make this observation based on The Tribune's Top 20 Under 40, a group of 20 talented professionals not yet 40 years old whom we honored this week for their professional accomplishments and their service to the community.
Not only are these 20 professionals successful in their careers, they also donate countless hours of volunteer time to organizations around the county.
During their off hours, you'll find them coaching on soccer fields, tutoring in classrooms, serving meals to the homeless, raising funds to fight disease and serving at the helm of many of our nonprofit agencies.
Consider Russell Levanway: Legally deaf from a childhood illness, the 28-year-old heads his own high-tech company, TekTegrity, yet still finds time to help the homeless.
"I believe every person is gifted with particular skills and talents that we can use to benefit the world around us," he says.
Lisa Solomon Chitty, 38, is a bona fide trailblazer. She was the first woman to join the Paso Robles Police Department 18 years ago and is now a captain and second-in-command to Chief Dennis Cassidy. She gives back through her work with the North County Women's Shelter and has served as chair of the county's Sexual Assault Recovery and Prevention Program.
