What’s In It For Me?

By Russ Levanway, President

As I shared last month, TekTegrity is merging with Santa Barbara County’s CIO Solutions. So, what’s in it for our clients?

In past posts, I’ve talked about the cloud: what it is, the technology behind it, its status in the San Luis Obispo & Fresno regions, and what all of that means to our clients. Currently, a relatively small percentage of our clients use cloud services as core infrastructure. That means, instead of building infrastructure in their office, these clients choose instead to move it to a hosted environment or data center off-site. The switch to cloud services for infrastructure (often called in tech jargon an IaaS or Infrastructure as a Service) has great benefits.  Instead of large capital outlays for new equipment every few years, the infrastructure is typically available for a monthly service that is rolled into IT support.  Dedicated server closets and air conditioning are no longer necessary.

Much simplicity is gained.

Exciting Changes at TekTegrity

By Russ Levanway, CEO

Two years ago, I started up a conversation with Eric Egolf, CEO of CIO Solutions, a tech company not unlike our own, established in the late ‘80’s and based out of Santa Barbara. At the time, we were friendly competitors sharing a border between Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties, but through the course of conversation, we discovered that our businesses are very complementary. For instance, CIO Solutions is very strong in areas including cloud technology, security, and first call resolution, while TekTegrity’s strengths include operations, administration, and managing the life cycle of issues our clients experience. Soon, we were talking about how compelling a combination of our strengths might be; before long, we were talking more seriously, and last August, Eric approached me with a well thought out proposal.

That’s the exciting news I’m sharing today: Effective the beginning of April, TekTegrity will be merging with CIO Solutions and the combined organization will be known as CIO Solutions.

Foundation versus Fixtures

By Russ Levanway, CEO

We’re in the midst of remodeling our 4,500-square foot Fresno office right now, and if you’ve ever remodeled anything, you know it’s a long process. Our staff is temporarily relocated into a really small office in a neighboring building within the same business complex, in addition to some folks who work in a portable trailer that stands in our parking lot. Conditions are quite challenging for our staff, but they willingly embrace the upheaval because they know what they have to look forward to in about a month’s time: a brand-new, beautiful building to call home. more

Trust: Truly Keeping Core Values at the Core

By Russ Levanway, CEO

We’re spending some time revisiting our core values this year to ensure we don’t lose sight of their true meaning. I think that, for core values to be meaningful, they need to be reflected upon often, to be explored for new ways to model and apply them. In a healthy company, core values tend to manifest naturally because they’re integrated, but even in a healthy company, you may find, if you’re honest with yourself, certain elements of your core values might not be applied consistently. You need to reflect on that and find out how to make them part of your core again.

Your Log Has Something to Say to You

John Lim, CTO

By John Lim, CTO

When it comes to tech, most of us don’t have the need to look too deep into the systems we’re using. We go about the day using the system in place and don’t have to think twice about what’s going on under the surface.

But when something goes wrong and all of a sudden a server goes out or a system crashes, we hope that there are some precautions and hidden tricks up the sleeves of our IT company.

Enter: logs.

Do this One Thing to Make 2018 the Safest Year Yet

2018 Cyber Security Predictions

By Russ Levanway, CEO

At the beginning of this year, I predicted trends for 2017 and discussed my single biggest concern: security. I talked about the changing security landscape and how crypto-ransomware is a real force to reckon with. Sadly, my predictions turned out to be true.

Gratitude for Growth: We Couldn’t Have Done it Without You

Food Truck Fridays – a Client Appreciation Event

By Russ Levanway, CEO

There’s nothing like the sense of accomplishment that comes with having helped a client in a truly meaningful way when there’s mutual gratitude for a job well done. We’ve come to learn that our clients see us not just as a company that fixes their computers, but as a company that enhances their productivity and thereby enriches their lives and the lives of those they serve.

But let me be clear: there have been quite a few times when clients have told us what we needed to do better. And we wouldn’t be the company we are today without that feedback.

The Tool to Understand What Makes Teams Tick

By Russ Levanway, CEO

Not too long ago we hosted a staff retreat and had everyone complete a Worktraits profile that uncovered the nature of her or his convictions and personalities. Afterward, we learned what it means for some of us to be highly disciplined, ambitious or compassionate, etc.

One lesson I learned during our retreat was that because people have different personalities, they speak different languages. In a work environment, the way you relate to people can be very different from one personality to the next.

True Grit: Get IT

By John Lim, CTO

So guess what I have been doing the last few days? Besides trying to think of ideas for a new article.

Any guesses? No? No takers? Well, I’ve had the pleasure of working with the Engineers here at TekTegrity on a major disaster recovery effort. Yeah, not fun. I never want to ever experience that again.

Or do I?
